Spoiler alert: It’s good news.
One of the countless benefits of installing solar PV Panels is that once invested in, they last for 20-30 years with minimal maintenance. But before you invest in them, it is important for you to know everything about the lifespan of this source of Renewable Energy.
What does ‘lifespan’ refer to?
When we say the Life of Renewable Energy, in this case, is 30 years, it doesn’t mean that your solar panel will stop working after 30 years. It simply means that it won’t function at optimum levels. The panel will still continue to work for many more years.
Solar panel degradation rate
So now we know that a panel may not be 100% efficient after a few decades. But at what rate does it degrade? That depends on the quality of the panel you choose. On average, Solar PV Panels degrade at a rate of 0.5-0.8% per year. This means that if a panel is operating at 100% efficiency, this will drop to 99.5% or 99.2% respectively after a year. This isn’t a cause for worry because your panel will still work fairly efficiently for decades. At this slow a rate of degradation, you’re in for many decades of hassle-free Renewable Energy generation.
