Our History: Story Of the Decades

1948

Foundation Day

On August 11, 1948, Vijay Engineering & Machinery Company (VEMC) was founded by Shri. Sharad Kumar Shah.

The company's vision was to become the most reliable and endearing provider of electromechanical solutions.

VEMC commenced operations by selling two Peter Fielding engines.

1950-60

Era of Building Relationships
  • In the early 1950s, rural areas faced significant power shortages, leading to the widespread use of diesel engine fire pump sets for agricultural applications.
  • Diesel engines needed to be coupled with pumps, which facilitated our partnership with Kirloskar Brothers. This relationship expanded to include the sale of both engines and diesel pump sets.
  • In 1957, we formed an alliance with the German company MICO (Motor Industries Company Ltd.), specializing in fuel injection equipment.
  • VEMC expanded our presence with offices in Kolhapur, Hubli, Bijapur, and Solapur.

1960-70

Gearing up for Government Business
  • With Kirloskar Brothers, VEMC made its entry into the government sector, securing projects with the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D) and establishing a strong presence in key regions like Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, and Southern India.
  • Significant business was conducted with Central and Western Railways, particularly in Mumbai.
  • We also partnered with Jyoti Engineering in Baroda for vertical turbine pump sets and opened an office in Calcutta under the leadership of Vasant Kumar Shah, named Rajendra Engineering.
  • Additionally, an office was established in Bangalore to cater to the growing water supply scheme requirements.

  • Initially, our technical team comprised just one engineer, Mr. Subhash Shah. However, we soon expanded our engineering team to better serve industrial clients.
